The list took into consideration, the artiste’s consistency under the year in review, taking note of the reviews, nominations, and awards received. The search was not limited to only young African artistes living in their native country, but focused generally on every African artiste living everywhere.

Andy Allo – Cameroon

Young and beautiful Andy Allo is one of numerous Cameroonian artistes doing good music, and staking a claim for the future of the industry in the West African country.
Her alter hip soul personalised genre has caught on well with most music lovers, making her a hot commodity under the year in review.
In a recent write up by the CNN, the cable network identified her as one of the continent’s young, urban and savvy Afropolitans.

Davido – Nigeria
One of 2012’s wonders, 20 year-old Nigerian musician Davido literally swept Africa off her feet.
The Dami Duro hit maker progressively got the whole continent to sing along to his hit song, taking over rural-urban radio.
Dami Duro would later go on to become a constant feature on the charts across the continent.
A successful year it was, Davido got nominated for several awards and also won the Most Gifted New Comer award at the Channel O Music Video awards. He’s also been nominated for the upcoming KORA awards in Cote D ‘I Voire.
Fuse ODG – Ghana
The UK-based Ghanaian act made a strong case for African artistes living in the Diaspora in 2012.
The world danced to his Azonto and Antenna hit songs, in a year that was fairly favourable for him, meeting the likes of UK Prime Minister David Cameron and Haitian-born singer/rapper/producer Wyclef Jean, who also featured on the Antenna remix.
FUSE is a multiple Ghana Music Awards nominee who has also earned a 2012 KORA Award nomination for Best Male West Africa.
One of few artistes credited for the extreme popularity of the Azonto dance (Ghana’s newly-found street dance) in 2012; FUSE ODG was by every stretch, one of Africa’s most impressive young musicians.
 
Gal Level – Namibia
Nominated for the Most Gifted Afro Pop Video of the Year award at the 2012 edition of the Channel O Music Video Awards, the R&B girl group from Namibia pulled their weight in 2012.
Referred to as the Destiny’s Child of Africa, Gal Level competed fairly in what was largely, a male-dominated year.
The duo however, came up strong, offering competition to their male counterparts. The Southern African acts proved their mettle in 2012.


Iyanya – Nigeria
Another 2012 wonder, Iyanya’s growth in the year under review, was somewhat phenomenal.
He recently broke the record for highest download of a single mobile caller ringback tune, hitting some 3 million subscribers across Nigeria.
This year, he was nominated in different categories at the BEFFTA Awards as well as the South African Music awards.
He manages his own record label Made Men Music Group.
Lira – South Africa
Young, energetic and alluring singer Lerato Molapo is one South Africa’s biggest female acts. 2012 brought her a lot of good tidings.
She performed at the 2012 World Cup Kick-Off Concert, and also won The Most Gifted Female Video at the 2011 Channel O MVAs.
A 2012 BET Awards nominee, Lira launched her much anticipated Captured Tour DVD, which is a feature film on her 2011 sold-out nationwide tour, to rave reviews.
In January 2013, Lira will get to prove to the world how good she is, when she performs at the official inauguration ceremony of U.S President Barack Obama.

Nelson Hebo – Angola
Angolan tenor Opera singer Nelson Hebo, was one of the most talked about and reviewed young African musicians in 2012.
An Angolan modern day wonder, Hebo has been hailed as the “next big thing.
The Associated Press has defined his journey to the top, which started from the streets of Angola to the United States of America, as “an Odyssey as dramatic and surreal as any opera”, which has transformed his “life and many others along the way”.
